Our status is not the result of a few decisions by the Southern planters and their Northern financial and industrial backers. Forced labor was the basis of society from the Neolithic til the 20th century. Only the replacement of human labor by chemical energy and the unforeseen consequence: the disappearance of physical population limits, led to free labor as we know it. We are part of a growing surplus population. The rulers will not fund the industry which would employ us. Making common cause with other peoples in our situation and with others who want to end the investment log jam which is part of neo-liberalism are our best hope.
